Expecting mothers in Punjab to get Rs 1,000 at delivery time

June 17 (PTI) Chandigarh, Punjab government today announced Rs 1,000 to expecting mothers at the time of delivery under “Mata Kaushalaya Kalyan Yojana” to promote births in government hospitals. Punjab’s Health Minister Satpal Gosain said here today that the money would be given for nutritious and balanced diet to mothers after delivery. He said the scheme would be initiated with the purpose of promoting institutional deliveries in state-owned hospitals to curb maternal and infant mortality rate. The Minister said the government has disbursed the advance payment to concerned authorities to make the scheme a success. Gosain said 192 deaths were recorded in Punjab out of 5 lakh deliveries annually in government hospitals. The scheme would be formally launched on June 20 in Patiala, Gosain added.
