Gujarat royals honour Narendra ModiJune 21 (FnF) Ahmedabad: In a new development, former rulers and princesses of several erstwhile royal families of Gujarat and few from Rajasthan honoured Chief Minister Narendra Modi at a function held at Ranjit Vilas Palace at Vankaner in Rajkot district.

The felicitation, organised by Vankaner royal family yesterday, was witnessed by former kings, princesses and representatives from 26 royal families of Gujarat and Rajasthan, an official statement said today, adding Kesaridev Sinh, prince of Vankaner, joined the BJP on the occasion.

Former king of Vankaner Digvijay Sinh, a former union minister in the Congress government, also showered praises on Mr Modi.

In tune with tradition, the former kings presented swords and turbans along with a roll of honour for best administration to the Chief Minister.

In his reply, Mr Modi said his felicitation was honouring the hard work of six crore Gujaratis because of whom the state has achieved such great progress.

He said many facts of India’s glorious past have not been put before the world. Hundreds of royal families left their power on the call of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel which was appreciable. ”Getting out of power is not an easy thing”, he pointed out referring to clamping of emergency in 1976.

”Unjustly historians have mainly described the lavish lifestyle of the royal families omitting the other aspects. In fact, the royal families in India have a rich history that is full of values, ideals and works of welfare”, said Mr Modi.
