May 21 Mumbai: Mumbai police have broke up a rave party on the terrace of a Juhu hotel on Sunday evening and detained 96 youngsters most of them were celebrity children and foreign nationals. At least two IPL players and a couple of children of celebrities were among them, police sources said.

The police have arrested the organiser of the party, Vijay Handa, under the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The raid was conducted at the famous Oak Woods Hotel in Juhu, where the rave party was being held.

“We found 58 men and 38 women at the rave party at Oakwood Premier Hotel on J R Mhatre Road near Juhu beach,” said zonal DCP Pratap Dighavkar. Police seized around 110 gm of cocaine, besides Ecstasy tablets and charas.

The cops say that invitations to the party were sent out by social networking site Facebook. The message posted on the site said “Support the party not the drug”, they say, adding that the police are trying to ascertain if this was the code for drugs being circulated at the party.

Two IPL players – Rahul Sharma and Wayne Parnell of Pune Warriors – were also detained on charges of consuming banned drugs. Rahul, however, said that he was at the hotel but at a different party. “I went for a birthday party at Oak Woods Hotel in Juhu. I had just reached there but nobody was present.”

His mother too said her son has done no wrong. “My son is fine, he went for a birthday party. How would he know whether people are going to take drugs over there or there is going to be a police raid? My son is fine, there is no problem. He has done no wrong,” she said.
