batman-dark-knight-risesJuly 20, Mumbai: Christopher Nolan’s third and the last film in the Batman franchise, The Dark Knight Rises releases today. Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film starts after eight years of the era shown in ‘The Dark Knight’.

Director Christopher Nolan, has used the conventional method to shoot the film rather than opting for the digital format. “By all accounts, The Dark Knight Rises is the definition of epic – shooting on location across three continents, with a daring aerial stunt sequence, a massive crowd scene involving explosions and over 10,000 extras, and a full complement of new gadgets and vehicles,” he said in a recent interview.

This time the story is expected to begin with Commissioner James Gordon’s (Gary Oldman) account who still feel guilty about the planned cover up of Harvey Dent’s (Aaron Eckhart) crimes. However, he decides to not reveal the actual facts because in his opinion the people of Gotham are still not ready to hear the truth. A terrorist leader Bane (Tom Hardy) somehow gets his hands on Gordon’s speech and plans to use it against the local administration.

Batman is not visible in Gotham city anymore as he doesn’t need to do anything to curb the crime. His other avatar Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) is spending his days inside his huge mansion. However, he returns to the city as Batman when he comes to know that Bane stages a raid on city’s stock exchange.

Christian Bale and Michael Caine who starred in the previous Batman movies, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, will be joined by Anne Hathaway in the role of Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Tom Hardy as the deadly Bane. Early reviews have heaped praise on Bale’s final performance as the caped crusader.

Anne Hathaway underwent rigorous training in kick-boxing and mixed martial arts for her role. “I’d always thought I was pretty healthy and I always thought I had worked hard in the gym. It turns out that what I thought was hard, in Catwoman’s world is actually light to moderate,” the actress said.

Morgan Freeman’s Lucius Fox is the mentor of Batman and will keep serving Bruce Wayne with his latest high tech equipments.

Fed by multiple influences (Sergio Leone, Murnau, Orson Welles, Fritz Lang, Hitchcock), Nolan has not focused his trilogy on Batman, but Bruce Wayne, the billionaire who dons the neurasthenic man’s bat to exorcise an infantile trauma (his parents murdered) by fighting against crime. The man behind the mask is more interesting than the silhouette of comics.
