Cabinet reshuffle: Chidambaram may get Finance and Shinde likely to be Home Minister

p chidambaramJuly 31, New Delhi: In a Cabinet reshuffle, Home Minister P Chidambaram is likely to take charge of as Finance Minister, which was left vacant after President Pranab Mukherjee resigned for contesting in the Presidential polls. The Home Ministry is expected to be handed over to current Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

Shinde is also likely to be made the UPA Leader in Lok Sabha. While this will be a minor reshuffle, the UPA ministry is expected to get a major overhaul after the Monsoon Session of Parliament in September.

After Pranab Mukherjee’s exit, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been holding the charge of Finance Ministry and it was said that Chidambaram was a favourite for the post. He is likely to take charge by August 5.

It may be noted that Chidambaram has held the Finance Ministry twice.

He has been making statements on the state ofthe economy over the past few days. Chidambaram was the Finance Minister before being moved to the Home Ministry in the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

Chidambaram’s appointment as the head of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on telecom is also an indication that government is willing to take on the opposition.
