Google buys Sparrow and its email clients for Mac OS and IOS

google-sparrowJuly 23, San Francisco: The young company Sparrow has announced its acquisition by Google. It publishes two email clients for Mac OS as well as IOS, and his staff are expected to join the team responsible for development of Gmail.

Sparrow has built a reputation on the internet with his first creation: a mail client for OS X and has a minimalist interface whose inspiration seems to come from social networks like Twitter. The company has since done it again with a version of IOS client, available through the App Store. While paying, the two programs have upon release received positive feedback.

It is assumed that they came to the ears of Google since, as the announcement Sparrow on its own website, the search engine just to afford the start-up.

Sparrow is a paid application, first launched for Mac computers, Apple, and then in 2010 for the iPhone earlier this year. The iPhone launch in March 2012, would have gained 60,000 mobile users in a few hours.

Google has so far not revealed what could be the objective of this acquisition, although it would seem logical that the teams are brought Sparrow on-floor applications that develops its own search engine for its Gmail service (including iOS). A dedicated client for OS X could it be created?

Meanwhile, the team Sparrow has already advised users of its software – which will remain the market – that there would be more new features developed, although the functions of support and updates security will remain insured.

The amount of the acquisition was not disclosed. Sparrow had since its creation in 2010 received support from various investors, including fund Kima Ventures powered by Xavier Niel.
