Pedicure: Tips to do at home

| |

pedicureJuly 28, IBA India Beauty Academy: A pedicure is a way to improve the appearance of the feet and nails included. This treatment is similar to the manicure. In 2010, treatment of the legs below the knees is considered as a pedicure. A pedicure treatment may include waxing, exfoliation, shaving, cutting and shaping nails, applying a moisturizer and a brief massage. It can be used to remove dead skin under the foot. A pedicure can prevent nail diseases.

Here I would like to share some useful home tips for a good pedicure. All that you need is a pinch of free time, a dish of delicacy and some utensils…

Choose your equipments

  • A nail file
  • A small basin
  • A nail cutter
  • A cuticle pusher (pick of wood, metal or silicone..)
  • A good moisturizing cream (your usual body lotion, Nivea, ponds etc)
  • A small brush (a nail brush or a recycled toothbrush)
  • A pumice stone or foot scrubber
  • A small piece of cotton
  • A small towel

Do it step by step

  • Remove all traces of polish with a non-acetone remover. Do wash your feet in a bath of warm soapy water.
  • Cut and file your nail in desired shape and length (filing will help to get rid of the keratin scales)
  • Apply moisturizer to your feet, then put them again in warm water (or hot if you like) that you have previously placed in the basin.
  • Soak for minimum ten minutes. The hot water will penetrate effectively into the cuticle.
  • Before taking them out, brush your nails with the brush provided for this purpose, for thorough cleaning.
  • Remove the feet from water, place them on the cotton towel, Wipe and apply a demulcent water on the cuticle of each toe, massaging and push these little skin as possible.
  • Apply a cuticle cream to soften your cuticles.
  • Perform a foot exfoliation with the pumice stone or scrub by focusing removal of calluses (usually located at the foot sole, heel and toe).
  • Rinse off your feet with clear water and dry them.
  • Proceed to up the nails: a base and two coats of polish of your choice.
  • Finally finish with a massage with a nourishing cream or refreshing essential oil, depending on your needs. (This step is optional, it helps to relax, but has nothing to do with the pedicure!)
