Team Anna fast begins, Jantar Mantar is crowded with more than 6000 supporters.

team-anna-fast-jantar-mantarJuly 25, New Delhi: Ahead of the indefinite fast by Team Anna at the Jantar Mantar, venue for the indefinite fast, Anna supporters started coming in large numbers. People of various age groups from Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and other states were seen at the venue.

Volunteer registration counter and people registering for indefinite fast was packed. “There are around 100 people who have registered as volunteers,” says media co-ordinator Devendra. “Even the number of people who will be fasting indefinitely is increasing. There are around 100 people,” he said.

Around 1,000 supporters will join the agitation under the India Against Corruption (IAC) banner. Across India, the number is expected to be around 5,000.

Hazare and other members will pay tributes at Rajghat before reaching Jantar Mantar. Hazare will not fast from day one. Hazare announced that he would wait for four days for the government’s response. “Otherwise, I too will join the fast unto death from July 29,” he said.

The largest team of volunteers will take care of those on fast. “We plan to deploy 2-3 volunteers for every 10 such people. This is necessary for looking after their medical needs, health and sanitation,” the IAC office bearer said. The other teams will comprise those for crowd management, sanitation, medical emergencies, information desk and also for distribution of water.

Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal has tweeted today morning, “मेरे सीने में नहीं,तो तेरे सीने में सही;हो कहीं भी आग,लेकिन आग जलनी चाहिए..Fight 2 make India Free from Corruption! Save India!Good Morning”.

In an interview before the hunger strike, Kejriwal said that given the groundswell of support the movement had been seeing he was confident that the agitation would be success. “People are coming on their own. This gives me confidence that the hunger strike on 25 July will be a success,” Kejriwal told

The indefinite fast announced by Team Anna to demand an independent probe into allegations of corruption against 15 ministers will begin from Wednesday at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal had warned that they would release details of corruption against President-elect Pranab Mukherjee during his swearing-in ceremony.

Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai will sit on the fast. Anna Hazare, however, said he will join the fast from Sunday. According to reports, Team Anna will visit the Rajghat at 10.30 am and will arrive at Jantar Mantar for the fast at 11 am. Sources say Kejriwal is diabetic and will deliver one or two speeches a day.

Earlier in the day, hundreds of people joined team Anna to welcome Hazare at the airport.
