geetika-sharma-and-gopal-kandaAug 6, Chandigarh: Haryana state home minister, Gopal Goyal Kanda resigned on Sunday after he and a manager in his MDLR group were booked by the Delhi Police for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 23-year-old former airhostess of the now defunct MDLR airline. Geetika Sharma was found hanging by her parents at her second-floor house in north Delhi’s Ashok Vihar around 7.30am. She left a suicide note, alleging that Kanda and his employee Aruna Chadha had been harassing and cheating her.

“I am ending myself today because I am shattered inside. My trust has been broken and I am being cheated. Two people response for my death are Aruna Chadha and Gopal Goyal Kanda. Both of them have broken my trust and misused me for their own benefits,” states a suicide note purportedly left behind by young Geetika.

She alleged that they ruined her life and were now trying to hurt her family members. Accusing the two of having lied to her, she said: “I have forgiven them a number of times, but it was my biggest mistake.”

“These two (persons) should be punished for their wrong deeds and malicious intentions towards me and my family,” says one part of the note purportedly signed by Geetika, dated August 4.

In the second part, which is inexplicably dated May 4, she has accused Mr. Kanda of always taking advantage of others. She alleged that Ms. Chadha, who was earlier her well-wisher, had been working at Mr. Kanda’s behest to save her job.

“My biggest mistake was (that) I trusted them, which is now costing my life. I will never ever forgive them. They are the ones who have separated me today from my mom, dad and bhai. I hate them, these two..,” the note says.

While the note goes on to urge that the two be punished, it doesn’t explain how Sharma had been cheated. According to Aruna Chadha’s profile on a social networking site, she worked closely with Kanda at MDLR.

“The suicide note is not very clear,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) P Karunakaran said. “The FIR has been registered against only Gopal Kanda and Aruna Chadha. The allegation that is made is of mental harassment.”

“We have registered a case of abetment of suicide against Kanda and Chadha,” said P Karunakaran, DCP (northwest).

With the opposition building pressure on Haryana chief minister BS Hooda through the day, Kanda announced late evening in Gurgaon that he was stepping down. He refused to comment on the case. Hooda had earlier said he would “check the facts and take appropriate action”.
