Team Anna to lose 75% of deposit if Mumbai agitation gets cancelled

21 Dec (DNA) Mumbai: While the members of the India against Corruption (IAC) have finally decided to book the MMRDA grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) for social activist Anna Hazare’s proposed agitation, the authority officials have made it clear that after making deposit payment, IAC will lose 75% of the money, if they cancel the agitation.

On Wednesday, MMRDA handed over a formal letter to the office bearers of Jagaruk Nagarik Manch indicating the bifurcation of the total amount which needs to be paid upfront by IAC before they can take possession of the plot in the G Text block of the BKC.

The IAC has booked the ground only for three days and a total of Rs19,01,178 including a deposit of Rs7,69,500 and a charge of Rs11,31,678 is to be paid. “The allottee has to pay 25% of the license fee (Rs2.82 lakh) in advance before taking possession of the ground,” says the letter given to IAC members by MMRDA on Wednesday. The balance has to be paid before the event infrastructure installation begins as per the letter.

However, there is a major glitch is in the security deposit related norms. The total security deposit to be paid is Rs7,69,500. If Team Anna cancels the agitation after paying the security deposit, they will lose 75% of the deposit i.e. Rs5,77,125.

“We have a clear rule that if after paying the security deposit money the organisation cancels the event, we forfeit 75% of the deposit. Since the applicants have so far not paid the amount, they may have to think about this issue before making the payment. They had come with a cheque on Wednesday, but since we accept only demand drafts, the IAC members have said that they will come on Thursday with the same,” said deputy metropolitan commissioner Anil Wankhede, who is handling the issue.

When asked about the concession issue, metropolitan commissioner Rahul Asthana said there was no question of giving any concession as that would be going against the policy. “Moreover, the applicant organisation Jagaruk Nagarik Manch is not registered under the charity commissioner. Hence there is no question of any concession to them,” said Asthana.
