Airhostess suicide: Gopal Goyal Kanda absconding, police raid his residence
Aug 8, New Delhi: Aruna Chadha, the other person blamed by Geetika in her suicide note for her death, was arrested after she was questioned through the day at the Keshavpuram police station in northwest Delhi on Wednesday. But the main accused in the Geetika Sharma suicide case and former Haryana minister, Gopal Kanda is still absconding.
Delhi Police raided several places in Delhi and Gurgaon to nab Kanda but he remained traceless after leaving his Gurgaon residence in an Audi car on Wednesday morning. Police teams raided his Gaul Pahari farmhouse, Civil Lines residence, MDLR office, Park Plaza Hotel and Hong Kong Bazar in Gurgaon but did not find him.
On Wednesday, Kanda’s lawyers had asked for his interrogation to be postponed by three days. They said they need to review important documents relevant to the case. However, police rejected that request and asked Kanda to join the investigations immediately.
“Gopal Goyal Kanda is absconding and we have sent teams to nab him. Aruna was placed under arrest after questioning. She was not clear in what she was saying,” said P. Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police (northwest).
Police have already questioned 10 persons from the MDLR Group - owned by Kanda - including its legal advisor Ankit Ahluwalia.
MDLR executive and Kanda’s chief aide, Mandeep was questioned by the police today. As per reports, the SIM card used by Kanda to make calls to Geetika was in Mandeep’s name.
A former air hostess with Kanda’s now defunct MDLR Airlines, 23-year-old Geetika Sharma committed suicide on Sunday accusing the former Haryana minister and MDLR official Aruna Chadha of harassing her.
Ms Sharma’s family alleges that when she was in the UAE, she was harassed and blackmailed by Mr Kanda and Aruna Chaddha, one of his senior executives, to return to Delhi and work for him.
She quit her job at his company in May because she wanted to study for an MBA. Mr Kanda says his firm loaned her several lakhs for her course.
Police are also awaiting the postmortem report of Geetika, conducted at Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital on Monday. Besides, police have sent the evidence collected from the residence of Geetika, including her iPhone, iPad and laptop, to the FSL in Rohini for examination.
Family members of Geetika alleged that Kanda was trying to tamper with evidence and buy people to manage his safe passage from the case.
